What happened to FAQ rich results?

By AEOing EditorialPublished 1 min read

Google stopped showing FAQ rich results in Search in 2026. The FAQPage type still exists in schema.org, but its main Google benefit is gone, so only add FAQs where real readers have real questions.

What changed?

Proven Google ended the FAQ rich result display. Secondary reporting dates the end of display to 7 May 2026. Check Google’s own structured data documentation for exact dates, because tooling support was withdrawn on a schedule.

HowTo rich results were retired earlier, in 2023.

Should you remove existing FAQPage markup?

Practice Existing valid markup is not reported to cause penalties. Whether other systems use it is not confirmed by the platforms, so do not rely on it.

Should you still write FAQs?

Yes, when they answer genuine questions in plain language. Do it for readers, not for a markup feature.
