How to write answer-first content
Answer-first content states the direct answer in the first sentence or two, then supports it with detail. It helps readers and makes your meaning easy to extract. It is good practice, not a Google requirement.
The pattern
- Write the heading as the real question: “How long does X take?”
- Answer it in one or two plain sentences that stand on their own.
- Follow with context, steps, exceptions and sources.
- Show an author and a last updated date.
Why it works
Practice A self-contained opening answer can be quoted without losing meaning. This is a reasoned practice. Google says it does not require special rewriting for AI features, so do not restructure good pages just to fit a formula.
What to avoid
- Splitting content into artificial chunks. Google’s guidance lists this among things you do not need.
- Burying the answer under long introductions.
- Publishing mass-produced pages. Google says its spam policies apply to AI answers too.
